Representatives of federal, state, and local governments have taken measures over the last few years to require fracking fluid providers to disclose the contents of their fluids. Fracking fluids contain chemicals which are added to water in order to reduce friction, control viscosity, and improve gas flow. Some of these chemicals can be harmful to humans. Exposure to these chemicals is possible through contaminated drinking water. Two recent reports by the minority staff of the United States House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Committee found that diesel fuel and harmful chemicals are regularly used in fracking fluids. The reports found that hundreds of thousands of gallons of diesel fuel and 2-BE (a potentially dangerous chemical) have been injected into the ground in Arkansas. Those reports can be found by using the search function on this site: https://democrats.energycommerce.house.gov/.
