Football Helmet Study and Concussions

Published on May 10, 2011 at 12:21 pm in Uncategorized.

The AP and Sports Illustrated are reporting that Virginia Tech University has completed a comparative study of football helmet safety and concussion prevention. It is the first recent study that has been available to the public to analyze current model helmets comparatively and rate their ability to help prevent concussion. The ratings system was a one to five star system. Only one helmet got a five star rating–the Riddell Revolution Speed. Several other helmets got four star ratings.

The Virginia Tech ratings “show that there is a difference between helmet brands and models and that strong research and development can make a significant impact on the protective performance of football helmets,” Arment said in an emailed statement.

I have attempted to paste the link to the AP article appearing in Sports Illustrated below.
