Distracted Driving and Teenage Drivers

In 2013, teen drivers (19 and under) made up 4.2% of all drivers.  https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/policyinformation/statistics/2013/pdf/dl20.pdf  However, 8% of the people who died in distraction-affected crashes in 2013 were teen drivers.  Distracted driving accounted for 11% of all teen motor vehicle fatalities in 2013.  https://www.distraction.gov/downloads/pdfs/11381-Distracted_Driving_Teens_2013_032415_v1a_tag.pdf

In Arkansas, drivers of all ages are prohibited from texting while operating a vehicle, drivers 18 to 20 years old are prohibited from using hand held cell phones while operating a vehicle, and drivers 18 years old and younger are banned from using hand held or hand free cell phones while operating a vehicle.
