Cabot Oil and Gas Co. to Drill in Arkansas

Published on Oct 26, 2011 at 7:30 pm in Environmental.

During the week of October 21, 2011, the Arkansas Oil and Gas Commission issued a permit to Cabot Oil and Gas Co. to drill in Union County, Arkansas. The company’s application for permit to drill indicates the well will require hydraulic fracturing. The majority of hydraulic fracturing occurring in Arkansas is in the north-central part of the states. Union County is in southern Arkansas. Cabot has a poor compliance history in other states, such as Pennsylvania, where it has used hydraulic fracturing. Pennsylvania has documented multiple chemicals spills by Cabot, and at one point in 2009, prohibited the company from fracking in their state. Cabot’s presence in Arkansas represents a significant concern to Union County’s landowners.
