Jury Trial Win and the Importance of Uninsured and Underinsured Auto Coverage

Published on Apr 25, 2023 at 11:54 am in Firm News.

A car wreck client of McMath Woods P.A. recently won a jury trial against his underinsured motorist carrier, Shelter Insurance, in Pulaski County Circuit Court. The client was represented by McMath Woods Partner Will Bond. Shelter had denied payment to the client of underinsured motorist coverage policy limits claiming that the injuries the client suffered in the rear end collision pre-existed the wreck and he had been fully compensated. Shelter hired an expert and aggressively defended our client’s claims of injuries and permanent damage. Luckily, a Pulaski County jury decided in favor of the client and against Shelter and awarded the policy limit of $50,000.

This case highlights a couple of very important facts for all insurance consumers. First off, you should always carry uninsured and underinsured insurance coverage on all your cars, trucks, motorcycles… every motorized vehicle that you can. You cannot control whether someone runs into your car or truck, and you cannot control if they have insurance coverage or how much insurance coverage they have. Call your insurance company or agent today and make sure you have these coverages. It is incredibly important if you are in a car wreck or even if you are hit as a pedestrian.

Saying Goodbye to John Coulter, Partner at McMath Woods

Published on Apr 25, 2022 at 12:47 pm in Firm News.

We are saddened by the passing of McMath Woods partner John Coulter. John passed away on April 22, 2022, after having lived with lung cancer since January 2020.

John was truly a “lawyer’s lawyer” and a tremendous advocate of the civil legal system. He believed that everyone deserved to have legal representation. John really cared, and you could see that care in every case he handled and everyone he helped. He always put his family and community first. He served as Pro Bono Counsel as well as volunteered at the Little Rick School District where he never missed an opportunity to read to a roomful of students or pitch in wherever help was needed.

John leaves behind a legacy of kindness and generosity toward others. Our thoughts and prayers are with Laura, Jonathan, and the entire Coulter family.

To learn more about John and his memorial services which will take place on May 16th, 2022, you may view his obituary here.
