Arkansas Driver’s License Oath to Contain Pledge Not to Text and Drive

As of July 20, 2011, Arkansas revenue offices have equipment allowing Arkansas motorists to see the oath they sign when obtaining driver’s licenses. The oath has been updated at the urging of law enforcement officials and now includes a pledge that motorists will not text while driving. Law enforcement official asked that the change to the oath be made because of the lack of knowledge in the general population of the 2009 law banning texting while driving. Carter Stein
